He Didn’t Want to Marry Me — Until I Got an Inheritance

We had been living together for five years.
We were in love — or at least, I thought we were.

But every time I brought up marriage, he’d laugh it off.

“What’s the rush?” he’d say.

We earned about the same, split bills equally, and had no real financial stress.
I never pushed him, thinking maybe one day he’d surprise me with a proposal.

Then everything changed.

A few months ago, I received an unexpected inheritance from a distant relative:

An apartment, a house, and a significant amount of money.

I didn’t flaunt it, but he knew.

And suddenly… he changed.

He started planning romantic dates.
He mentioned “our future” more than ever.
And then — after five years of brushing it off — he got down on one knee.

“Will you marry me?”

I looked at the ring.
Then I looked at him.

And I asked the only question that mattered:

“Is it me you want — or the lifestyle I just inherited?”

He didn’t answer right away.
That silence told me everything.

Sometimes love is real — but sometimes it’s just waiting for the right “assets.”
